Marshall's German Shorthaired Pointers

Meet our beloved shorthairs that have been such an important part of our lives.  Over twenty-five years have been spent raising, training, hunting, breeding, and absolutely loving shorthairs.  Though some have been gone for many years, we continue to talk about them and share amazing stories with family and friends as we remember them with love still today.

Marshall's Sureshot Sadie

NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize 1, Perfect Score

Sadie was the one who started it all, our first shorthair and the reason we fell in love with this breed.  She earned a prize one in her NAVHDA natural ability test with the only perfect score that day.  She made countless hunting trips to Iowa, Canada, and all over Michigan.  She loved to hunt so much that she was unhinged with excitement when my dad started loading up for a hunting trip.  She had a no-quit drive and was always eager to please.  Sadie was an amazing dog to grow up with and I felt like the biggest star in the world when she got to come to my school and show her skills in obedience and blind retrieves for show and tell.  She could truly do it all and set the bar incredibly high for every dog that came after her.  There are not enough pages in the world to describe who she was and what she meant to our family.

Marshall's High Dollar Chip

When it comes to intelligence and intuition, Chippie had it in spades.  Even as a puppy he was very in tune with how people were feeling, and wanted to comfort you if something was wrong.  Just like his mom, Sadie, he also had natural hunting instincts that showed when he was the first of the litter to the wing and pointing.  It was easy to get attached to this special pup, so when it came time for puppies to be picked and go to their homes, I quietly took Chippie away and out of sight.  I was so happy and relieved when Chippie got to stay and become part of our family.  Chippie was a great pup and became a skilled hunter who was always eager to please.  You could not ask for a better all-around shorthair; loyal, loving, smart, attentive, and a great hunter who was absolutely stunning.  Chippie was everything and more.

Marshall's Boot Scoot'N Boogy

AKC Show Champion

AKC Canine Good Citizen

Scooter was one in a million.  He was the most energetic puppy and a natural hunter.  It came as no surprise that he quickly became the perfect hunting companion for trips to Iowa, South Dakota, and Michigan.  He also excelled in the show ring and finished his AKC championship title with personality plus.  He was loved by all who met him, and even had his own fan club on the show circuit!  After showing he earned another title, the AKC CGC, and became a volunteer dog in the nursing home.  He was adored by all of the residents and employees, and it made Tuesdays the best day of the week for both of us.  He also traveled with me to events and rode in parades, and always loved a chance to hunt.  He pointed and retrieved more birds than I can count and was the ideal hunting companion in every way.  More important than all of his accomplishments, he was the best buddy in the world and made his family feel happy and loved.

Brookstone's Barefoot Contessa

NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize 3

Katie was an absolute sweetheart.  She was like a velvet teddy bear that wanted to be right in your pocket.  One look from those big brown eyes would melt even the iciest heart.  As soft and sweet as could be, with amazing hunting ability and impressive agility.  She earned a prize 3 in her NAVHDA natural ability test after minimal training time because she came to us at fourteen months old.  Anyone who hunted with Katie would smile at how much fun she was having. She had a spring in her step and would actually bounce through the field.  She was also a great hunter in the woods, especially grouse hunting in northern Michigan.  She loved the water, and was highly skilled in all types of hunting.  These skills combined with her sweet and fun personality made her the perfect shorthair for anyone.

Marshall's Countyline Contessa

Lola was very social and naturally curious from day one.  The puppy of our dynamic duo, Scooter and Katie, the family resemblance shows clearly from her personality to beautiful markings.  With such a strong resemblance to Scooter she’s even been mistaken for him in photos.  She loved to hunt and did an excellent job on hunting trips to Iowa and northern Michigan.  She also had the sweetest temperament and was an adored member of the family.  She was a lucky girl to have a family with John and Andrea; the most loving home imaginable.  She was queen of the house and was always excited when we visited or took hunting trips together.  Lola was truly special in every way and loved her family as much as they loved her.

Marshall's Sweet Baby Girl

The baby of the litter, she became our Baby and the name stuck.  She was so small compared to her littermates, but immediately showed she was a scrapper.  From day one, she had a fighting spirit and started pushing her way through her bigger brothers and sisters to eat.  She was also the first one to climb out of the whelping box and the first to the puppy food.  It was clear that she was smart, determined, and full of spunk.  She has a great nose and loves to hunt.  Baby has done an excellent job in Iowa and Michigan hunting pheasants, quail, grouse, chukar, and woodcock, and she also loves hunting rabbits.  The most important things about Baby are that she is loyal, sweet, and is the happiest girl.  She is so important to us and I wouldn’t want to imagine a life without Baby.
